Cong-BSP now in a booklet war in UP

Mayawati completely ignorant of ground realities: Digvijay Singh

UP Chief Minister Mayawati had a few days ago said she would soon send booklets on the achievements of her two-year regime to all Congress MPs and MLAs so that they could see what her government had done for the state, and what the Congress could not do in 40 years.

Digvijay Singh, Congress general secretary in-charge of UP, on Sunday said that his party would also prepare a booklet highlighting Mayawati’s failures and send it to her.
“We are still waiting for the booklet and as soon as we receive it, we will send her back another booklet that will highlight the failures and lack of governance in her regime. The people can compare the two booklets and decide for themselves,” Singh said
The Congress leader said that Mayawati was surrounded by a coterie and was completely ignorant about the ground realities.

“Either she is being misled by those close to her or she is blatantly lying on certain issues. She is completely ignorant of the ground realities and remains pre-occupied with holding press conferences and issuing statements”, he alleged.

When asked whether he thought that UP was a fit case for the imposition of President’s rule, he said his party did not wish to topple the Mayawati government.

“Instead, we will prefer to wage a political battle against the BSP government.
The BSP has been given a mandate for five years and we do not wish to disturb that.
Besides, a constitutional breakdown is a pre-requisite for imposing President’s rule and the Parliament must ratify it with a two-thirds majority,” he pointed out.

Referring to the clean chit given to the Delhi police by the National Human Rights Commission in the Batla House encounter, Digvijay Singh said that his party  would like to have another probe into the matter.

It has been pointed out that the commission did not take the views of the aggrieved families, he said.
