Minister happy with district's performance in excise collection

Speaking to mediapersons after conducting a review meeting here on Wednesday, he said said that even the department has fared better in collecting dues as well.

He said that in the year 2010-11, the state had set a target of ` 7,500 crore and it has succeeded in reaching ` 8,316 crore. For the current fiscal, the target is ` 9,300 crore and the department aims to cross ` 10,000 crore turn over, he added.

Hooch-free state

Renukacharya said that he would make the State free from hooch’ and the department would continue its drive against all illegal hooch making units across the State.

Pointing out that the State exchequer is suffering huge losses due to flow of hooch, he said the officers have been given instructions to make sure that the sale of hooch is completely stopped within next two months.

Renukacharya said in 2010-11, the department conducted 2,942 raids and arrested 231 persons.

It is happy to note that Mandya district is completely from the menace of hooch.

Excise Deputy Commissioner Someshwar, Superintendent Shyam Jois and Deputy Superintendent Moses Samuel were present.
