Society former president K R Rangaswami said that the dredging work to clean the canals should have been carried out much before the water was released from the reservoir. However, tenders to undertake dredging work was awarded after water has been released to the canal, he said adding that the farmers in the extreme end of the canal will not get sufficient water, if silt was not removed.
Hebbale Gram Panchayat member H S Nagaraj said that the paddy cultivation in the region will be delayed due to the negligence. Atleast 1 TMC of water should be reserved for summer crops, he added.
