People of Bengal wanted change: CPM

Last Updated 13 May 2011, 17:59 IST

“The people of West Bengal have voted for “poriborton (change)” and Mamata Banerjee has been benefited from it, said senior CPM leader Sitaram Yechury highlighting this fatigue factor.

“After the record 34 years of rule and consecutive victories in seven elections, people wanted change. We accept the verdict of the people,” he said.

However, he said the party will analyse the reasons of defeat when its politburo meets on May 16.   To compensate for its worst defeat in West Bengal, the CPM is highlighting party’s performance in Kerala. “The poll results in Kerala showed that it was one of the closest fights in the history of the state,” said Yechury.
