Ice cream may have doubled up as everyone’s favourite dessert, but the indigenous kulfi still holds its charm for many. This frozen milk dessert has many admirers and that is one of the reasons why ‘Sreeraj Lassi Bar’ in the City has lasted for decades.
The first shop was opened in the City, 37 years ago, by Abdul Rahiman, near Cubbon Park. Back then it only sold lassi, falooda and kulfi but has extended its menu to include a whole lot of new stuff. Today, the store still remains one among the popular destinations for its milk items and fruit juices.

There is nothing fancy about the store’s exterior or the interiors. There are only a few chairs for those who want to finish their items leisurely. But still, there is a constant movement of customers who come and go every few minutes. The crowd includes the old, kids, teenagers and college-goers — all looking for some sweet delights. The best-selling items here are without a doubt the lassi. With mangoes being the fruit of the season, the mango lassi is a must try.

Creamy but not too thick, it is perfect to quench your thirst on a hot summer day.

The other flavours of lassi are plain, sweet, pepper or khara, pudina, grape and pineapple.

The place also serves delicious faloodas which are made from noodles,
sabudana, sabza, milk and ice cream.

This sweet, cold and creamy dessert is a great way to beat the heat and ‘Sreeraj Lassi Bar’ is one of the best places to have a falooda which won’t cost too much.

Another favourite among the crowd is the lip-smacking kulfi. It is available in many flavours like mewa misri, kesar badam, kaju, ‘mango’ and elaichi. For the old-fashioned, matka kulfi is perfect. Served in a matka, it is creamy but not overly sweet and a treat to have. An interesting item to try out here is the minto cool, which is a mint and lemon flavoured drink.

The place also serves other milk items like pot curds, ‘paneer’ and shrikhand. “The paneer is made in Shanti Nagar while everything else is made fresh at the joint,” says Suleman, who runs the joint on Palace Road.

Some of the other items available in the store are fruit salads with jelly or ice cream, a variety of milk shakes, milk shakes with ice cream, fresh strawberry with cream and hot chocolate fudge. Needless to say, if you have a sweet tooth, this place is a dream come true.

The store is open from 11 am to 11.30 pm everyday and has branches in Shivajinagar, Kamraj Road, Jayanagar, Shantinagar, Gandhinagar, R T Nagar and Coles Park.
