The bundh was called in protest against the recent arrest of a top Maoist cadre, Ajad and his wife besides two other junior cadres, by the Orissa police.

The state’s most wanted Maoist leader Sabyasachi Panda had personally rung up local media houses two days back and informed them about the bundh.

The police have confirmed that their special operation group sleuths had arrested Ajad’s wife Lilabati Patmajhi alias Sunita from a slum in capital Bhubaneswar recently but denied the Maoists’ claim that Ajad too had been picked up.
