The Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) President, K V Thankkabalu, who lost the Mylapore seat in the city to his nearest AIADMK rival, sent in his resignation to the Congress high command, “owning moral responsibility” for Congress party’s most dismal performance in 20 years. The State Congress, after much high drama in the run-up to the Assembly polls, wriggled out 63 seats from the DMK, leaving the latter to contest just 119 seats. But despite having got a lion’s share in the seat-sharing agreement, the Congress just managed to win five of the 63 seats.
