Fleeing LTTE cadre could enter India: Navy chief

Last Updated 09 May 2009, 12:20 IST

"It is a sea route and they use boats. The miscreants (LTTE rebels) are on a fleeing spree and could enter Indian territory. We have a system in place to screen everyone who enters our territory," Admiral Mehta said here.

Till date, however, none has entered Indian territory, he said. "We have no doubt in our capabilities to prevent the miscreants from entering Indian territory."

In Panaji, Vice-Admiral S K Damle, flag Officer Commanding in Chief, Southern Naval Command, told PTI that the LTTE, pushed to a narrow stretch in Sri Lanka by its army, is trying to infiltrate into India through the western coast.

"As the Navy is closely monitoring the Tamil Nadu coast, we realised that people from Sri Lanka, including LTTE cadres, were trying to illegally enter from the west coast".

Damle said that Police and other security agencies have informed the Navy that LTTE is also making attempts to infiltrate from other areas.
