Stir against petrol price hike in City

Last Updated 17 May 2011, 19:36 IST

Addressing party workers at a rally, CPI(M) State secretary V J K Nair asked the UPA government at the Centre to reverse the "present uncontrolled rise in prices of petroleum products."

He said the hike would have a cascading effect on the prices of essential commodities and also result in increase in the cost of industrial production.

Nair said ultimately the common man would have to bear the brunt of the price rise as industries would pass on the costs to the public. CPI State secretary Siddanagouda Patil criticised the BJP government in the State for increasing sales tax on petroleum products.
