Dear Sir,

I am currently in the second year of an Electrical and Electronics engineering programme. I want to pursue an MS degree in Germany. What competitive exams should I take in order to do so?

Panchakshari SH

Dear Panchakshari,

Universities in Germany do not have a specified exam or any entrance examination  for a student who has completed an engineering course in India. Their main criterion is your academic performance in Class 12 and your graduation scores. However, appearing and doing well in GRE (Graduate Record Examination) helps. Since you are going to study in English, the language proficiency tests, either TOEFL or IELTS, is a must. German educational institutions are governed by the state and no substantial tuition fee is charged.

Hence, there is strict scrutiny of your academic performance. Your academic record must match the requirement for admission to universities in Germany. They look for high-performance grades.

As you are still in your second year of the programme and you still have two more years to go, put the effort to concentrate and work hard. Ensure that your average percentile stays above 75 per cent and gradually increase your scores. Details of the fees charged at each of the universities in Germany are available at their respective website or at Max Muller Bhavan. You can get more details in the website: www.dadd.de/idp or by visiting: Goethe Institute-Max Mueller Bhavan, No. 3, Lavelle Road, Bangalore.
