Metrolife in the city



‘The Last Hope’, a documentary, will be screened on May 20, 7 pm at Alliance Française.

The film is about the relentless struggle of the vulture conservationists in India and the subcontinent, where the activists are fighting a tough battle to protect this scavenger bird from the brink of extinction. The film aims to highlight the possible dangers in the future for these scavenging birds.

Varied selection
Gallery Sumukha is displaying a selection from in-house stock of paintings, sculpture and photography by various artists at Gallery Sumukha, 24/10, BTS Depot Road, Wilson Garden.

There will be ‘Oil on canvas’ by Muk­esh Sharma and ‘Mixed media sculpture’ by Nidhin V K. The exhibition will be held from 10.30 am to 6 pm (Monday to Saturday).

Unusual take
National Gallery of Modern Art, Palace Road is organising ‘Homai Vyarawalla, a Retrospective’ till July 8, 10 am to 5 pm.  Curated by Sabeena Gadihoke, the exhibition showcases photographs taken by Homai Vyarawalla, the first woman photojournalist of independent India.

The exhibition captures the years before and after India gained inde­­p­e­ndence. On Fridays and Saturdays, the exhibition is from 10 am to 7 pm. For details, call 22342338.

Ekjute Theatre Group from Mumbai is organising ‘Ekjute 30 Years Caravan’ to commemorate its 30th anniversary.  Their plays will be staged at Ranga Shankara from May 20 to 22.

Kalasindhu Academy and Nrityanjali are presenting a bharatanatyam masterclass by legendary dancer Yamini Krishnamurthy in the City till May 22. The workshop will be held at the Kalasindhu Dance Studio in Banashankari.

The valedictory function will be held on May 22, 6 pm at JSS Auditorium, Jayanagar. The master-class will culminate in a grand recital of Yamini Krishnamurthy’s works, including a ceremony to honour her presence in Karnataka.

‘Sai Nrityotsav’
‘Sai Nrityotsav 25’ will see five gurus of different classical styles present their 25 disciples on June 1, 5.30 pm at Seva Sadan Auditorium, 14th Cross, Malleswaram.

Suparna Venkatesh’s disciples will present bharatanatyam and Sharmila Mukherjee’s disciples will present odissi on the occasion.

Pancham Nishad Creatives Pvt Ltd is organising ‘Aarohi’, a music festival, featuring up-and-coming talents and the promising faces of Indian classical music on May 19, 6.30 pm at Chowdiah Memorial Hall. Manjusha Patil will present a vocal recital and S Akash will be on flute.

Ananya is organising Sangati, a youth music festival, at Ananya Sabhangana, Malleswaram till May 21.

Contemporary note
Contemporary musician Oliver Sean will be playing at Hard Rock Café, St Mark’s Road on May 19.

Oliver’s Portuguese, Italian and Goan roots are reflected in his eclectic music, which fuses mainstream rock with classical world instruments and Latin rhythms.

‘All Stars’
Bflat and the Swarnabhoomi Music Academy is presenting a concert, ‘All Stars’, at Bflat on May 26, 8.30 pm.
