Speaking after inaugurating the ‘Aaykar Bhavan’, the new building of Udupi Income Tax Department here on Wednesday, he said marginal tax payers are not advised properly regarding filing tax returns on time.

However Income Tax Department has brought out two new formats of paper returns- Sahaj and Sugam, which are the simplified formats to file IT returns. This new format will help to process the returns quickly.

Tender notification is over and the forms will be issued at various quarters of IT departments shortly. Earlier it would take not less than two years to refund the amount. Now it is 12 months to issue the refunds, attempts have been made to reduce the period to less than 12 months, he added.

He said if the tax payer files e-returns, the amount will be refunded within four months from the date of filing. Earlier the department was merely tax enforcing department but now it has transformed itself in to service oriented department to serve the tax payer to their satisfaction. “The tax payer can contact PROs, Seva Kendras or even visit websites to get additional information about tax payments and filing returns,” he added.

CPWD Chief Engineer A K Sharma informed that plans have been chalked out to construct Aaykar Bhavan at Mysore, he added.
