Last Updated 19 May 2011, 19:00 IST

The inspectors and other lower rung officers are nowadays having a say in most of the matters, that too in times of political unrest. It is not wise to have an ad-hoc arrangement at a time when the traffic cops have to deal with a series of protests, rasta rokos, besides the traffic mayhem that Bangalore is on a daily basis, feel senior police officers.

Sources said, Praveen Sood, Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic and Security) and DCP (Traffic, East) B A Muttanna are on long leave. Muttanna is in Coorg for his daughter's marriage. After Panduranga Rane (DCP, West) was promoted as DIG, the government is yet to select a suitable candidate to replace him.

Additional Commissioner (Law and Order) Sunil Kumar has been given the responsibility of overseeing Sood's duties, while DCP (PRO) Ramaiah is incharge of Traffic (West). A Nagappa, ACP (Traffic, Central) is the acting DCP (Traffic, East).
