An order to this effect has been issued by the DC who is also chairman of District Disaster Management Authority.

Accordingly, the committee comprised executive engineer of Public Works Department, zonal officers concerned of Mysore City Corporation and Mysore Urban Development Authority and Assistant Commissioner of Police (Traffic). Tahsildar of Mysore will be the member-secretary.
The chief executive officer of Mysore Zilla Panchayat has been asked to take necessary steps in panchayat limits.

The DC said there are huge sized flex and hoardings on either sides of roads, narrow turn, important junctions, road crossings, circles and other important places in the city as well as surrounding areas. Besides, the huge cut outs of elected representatives on roads violate norms of the Indian Road Congress. This would not only distract vehicle drivers but also cause road accidents causing huge loss. There are also cases of death of people in such mishaps. Taking serious note of these incidents the district administration deems it as its duty to invoke provisions of the Disaster Management Act in the interest of citizens.

Gupta said the team led by the MCC commissioner would implement rules of IRC and it would also take necessary steps for the removal of such hoardings and flex across the city with an immediate effect.

The member-secretary has to submit progress report to the deputy commissioner’s office on every Fridays in person. Henceforth, the permission of commissioner of MCC is mandatory for putting up any hoardings or flex in any part of the city.

The commissioner is given powers to remove them if it violates the provisions of IRC or else action will be initiated according to the Disaster Management Authority Act Col 56 of 2005, the DC added.
