The application was filed three days after she could not secure bail on grounds of being a woman. “The petitioner (Kanimozhi) is having a single school-going child to be taken care of. Her husband is employed abroad and the court should grant bail to her,” the plea, filed by the daughter of DMK chief M Karunanidhi said.

The application filed through advocates V G Pragasam, S J Aristotle and Sudarshan Rajan will come up for hearing on Tuesday before Justice Ajit Bharihoke.

A special CBI court, set up by the Supreme Court to try the 2G spectrum allocation case, had dismissed the bail plea of Kanimozhi and Kalaignar TV Managing Director Sharad Kumar, named in the CBI’s supplementary charge sheet for allegedly receiving Rs 200 crore. Kanimozhi and Kumar both have 20 per cent stake each in the TV channel with DMK chief’s wife Dayalu Ammal having the remaining 60 per cent stake. Kalaignar TV MD Kumar also filed his application in the court against the trial court order.

The high court on Monday dismissed the bail applications of five top corporate officials, who are lodged in Tihar Jail since April 20 for their alleged role in the 2G case.

The application filed by 43-year-old Kanimozhi referred to her status including the qualification to seek her enlargement. “She is a qualified lady, a post-graduate, and presently a Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha), with effect from July 2007. At present, she is the whip of the DMK in the Rajya Sabha,” the application read.

The application contended that she has been made accused in the case on the basis of concocted media reports.

No time for Sonia

DMK chief M Karunanidhi, who landed here on Monday,  has no plans to meet Congress president Sonia Gandhi.

Earlier in the day, Karunanidhi, who usually meets Sonia during his visits to Delhi, said in Chennai: “I am going to Delhi, but I may not get an opportunity to meet Congress president Sonia Gandhi.”

The cold relationship that developed between the two parties after the arrest of Kanimozhi could be witnessed even at the dinner hosted by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to mark the second anniversary of UPA-2. Karunanidhi ignored the prime minister’s invitation and sent only T R Baalu to represent the DMK.
