Multi-skill centres in Gulbarga, Peenya soon

Talking to reporters here on Monday, after meeting the members of Labour Welfare Board, the minister said one such centre will be established at Bagalgunte near Peenya in Bangalore in 20 acres of land and another centre will be set up in Gulbarga.

The Centre has promised to grant Rs 36 crore for establishing the centres, he said.
Briefing about the board meeting, Bache Gowda said the board had decided to increase the scholarship amount from Rs 1,000 to Rs 2,500 for students annually. However, the monthly income fixed to avail the scholarship for children of workers has been raised from Rs 5,000 to Rs 10,000.

From now on children of workers who secure more than 70 per cent in SSLC and PUC examinations will be awarded a scholarship of Rs 1,500, the minister said.

It was also decided to enhance the financial assistance given to workers undergoing open heart surgery and to those suffering from cancer and kidney ailments, from Rs 5,000 to Rs 10,000, the minister added.

The State Government will fix support price to contain the falling cocoon prices.  Though, the Government had earlier released Rs 25 crore to enable purchase of cocoons, there is a need of an additional Rs 13 crore to bail out serculturists from the current crisis, Bache Gowda said.
