Now, Cong leaders want Guv to step down

Last Updated 24 May 2011, 18:14 IST

Addressing a press conference on Tuesday along with B R Patil, former MP Kodandaramaiah said the Governor, the chief minister and the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly should resign because all are guilty.

Kodandaramaiah said there was no reason for the Governor to recommend President’s Rule as there was no law and order problem or breakdown of the Constitutional machinery.

“The party’s credibility has suffered because of such reports sent twice by the Governor recommending President’s Rule. The party has become a scape goat of the JD (S) and the Governor. As the Centre has set aside his recommendation the second time too, he should step down. He did not do his homework properly. Following the Surpreme Court observations, the Chief Minister and the Speaker can’t continue in office. If all three have respect for public opinion and believe in public morality, they should step down,” he said.

Asked whether he had expressed his mind in the party meetings, he replied in the affirmative. He said like him many had opposed the Governor’s action.

Joining him, former minister Jayaprakash Hegde said there was no scope for President’s Rule. B R Patil too expressed similar views.
