Water work to hit traffic flow on ORR

Co-ordinating with different agencies, BWSSB minister S Suresh Kumar, during an inspection, settled most of the issues related to the Board. "The work related to laying of water pipelines is the most significant one since these pipelines will supply additional 500 MLD of water to the City by March 2012. Since the project is very important, there was a need for joint co-ordination," he said.

The BWSSB is laying water lines near Mahadevapura flyover where BDA permission was required for a stretch of 600 metre.  At Mahadevapura Lake, nearly 60 m length pipeline will be laid at the bund of the lake bed for which the Lake Development Authority has granted permission.

From Kasturinagar to Marathahalli, the BWSSB has to lay pipeline to which the Board has to coordinate with BDA. Between Marathahalli and Kuvempu Circle pipeline will have to be laid, where most of the work will be taken up in the night.

The BDA, on the other hand, has one underpass at Kadubeesanahalli and three flyovers at Mahadevapura, Devarabeesanahalli and Bellandur junction which are under construction between Kadubeesanahalli and Agrahara. The work relates to a signal-free corridor to international airport from next year where BDA is expected to complete the work by December 2011.

The BDA has diverted traffic to the service road to facilitate the work. The BWSSB has to lay the water pipe on the service road and will take up the work in stretches. The road will be restored after laying one pipeline .

The BWSSB has paid Rs nine crore to the BDA to restore the road for 14.5 km to which BDA will invite tenders next week.

The traffic police on the other have said that though the commuters will face gridlocks on this stretch, they have permitted as both the works are very significant.
