Cong worker stabbed

Police said 34-year-old Goutam Kirtania, who is a businessman hiring out sound equipment was stabbed near his house. He was able to reach home. Congress-run Shantipur Municipality Chairman Ajay De alleged that the CPM was behind the attack.

Shantipur CPM zonal committee secretary Shantanu Chakraborty denied the allegation. The police said it was a result of differences in Kirtania’s family and not a political attack.

In another incident in the Kotowali area under Krishnanagar I block, unidentified men hurled bombs at Trinamool block President Sailen Ghosh when he was returning from the house of Youth Welfare Minister Ujjwal Biswas.

Ghosh later lodged a complaint with local police alleging DYFI members Madhab Ghosh and Surajit Ghosh and CPM activist Bangshi Ghosh were behind the attack.

Later Madhab Ghosh was arrested while two others were absconding, police said. The police later recovered an improvised fire-arm from the house of Bangshi.
