He was speaking at a public function held in the City to celebrate the birth anniversary of Nadaprabhu Kempe Gowda, on Sunday.

Urging the Centre to respect the people’s sentiments, he said that any further delay in renaming the airport would only amount to disrespect to Bangalore’s founder.

Addressing the media, the JD(S) supremo said members of the Kempe Gowda Committee had met him earlier regarding the renaming of the airport and that he had extended his support to them.

“It is saddening to know that there is not enough support for the cause. It is painful to see the apathy of the Bangaloreans towards the City’s founder,” he rued.

In the past, many leaders from the State had urged the Union government to name BIA after Kempe Gowda. Moreover, the State government had approved the decision of renaming the Bangalore International Airport after the chieftain Kempe Gowda. The government had sent a report to the Centre and is still awaiting its approval.
