Dipika enters round three

Top seed Pallikal, who got a bye in the first round, beat Natasha Kingshott of USA 11-2, 11-3, 11-1 in just 14 minutes to storm into the third round of the women’s singles event.

Sixteenth seed Anwesha Reddy, who also got a bye in the first round, played with clinical precision to beat Danielle Letourneau of Canada 11-6, 7-11, 12-10, 11-5 while Surabhi Misra stunned 25th seed German Lisa-Marie Sedlmeier 11-2, 11-6, 11-6 in the second round clash.

Misra earlier defeated Ana Arosa Rodriguez of Spain 11-2, 11-1, 11-5 in her opening round encounter.

In the men’s singles event, unseeded Abhishek Pradhan saw off Hong Kong’s Fung Ngo Long’s challenge 12-10, 8-11, 9-11, 11-8, 11-4 while 14th seed Ravi Dixit and 29th seed Karan Malik also started their campaign on a winning note.

Dixit beat American Brandon McLaughlin 11-9, 14-12, 11-2 in the first round while Malik brushed aside Tom De Mulder Belgium 11-2, 11-6, 11-4.

Among others in the fray, Mahesh Mangaonkar of Maharashtra fought gallantly before going down 11-9, 6-11, 11-5, 11-3 to French Antoine-Camille Petrucci.

Ninth seed Aditya Jagtap was also ousted in the opening round by Miled Zarazua of Mexico 11-8, 11-7, 11-4.

It was also curtains for Paramjit Singh, Ashray Ohri, Akshay Deepak, Abhinav Singh and Pranay Merchant as they failed to cross the opening hurdle while Sami Johnson gave a walkover to Johan Detter of Switzerland.
