The Cinematography course covers still photography, videography, and motion picture photography, where the techniques of lighting, visual composition, film processing, electronic cinematography and editing are taught exclusively.

In the Sound Recording and Engineering course, recording techniques of audio, architectural acoustics, communication engineering, radio broadcast, digital recording of sound, studio designing, sound designing, music lab, among others, are taught.

The Institute offers state-of-the-art technology ranging from STUDER 928 analog audio console, rock and roll projector, digital recorder, sync recorder, digital cameras, special effects generators, vision mixer, Arriflex III camera, Arri 535 B movie cameras.

On completion of the course, students have opportunities as cinematographers, DOPs, in movie making, and can also opt for various creative and challenging jobs as in advertising, documentary film making, short film making, sports coverage, forensic, fashion photography etc., They can also get into national and regional television channels.

As for Sound Recording students they have opportunities as sound engineers, acoustic engineers, sound designers, radio broadcast engineers, television broadcast engineers, installation engineers, service engineers, technical executives in PCR's, MCR's and OB vans to name a few.

Students with a +2 (PCM) or equivalent and an aggregate of 35 per cent are eligible to apply. Applications can be collected in person by paying Rs. 300, from the office of the Government Film & Television Institute, Hesaraghatta, Bangalore-88 or from the CCTEK-GFTI, Institute of Printing Technology, Opp Maharani Science College, Palace Road, Bangalore-1. or by way of DD drawn in favour of Principal, Government Film & Television Institute, Hesaraghatta, Bangalore-88.
