Kasturi (14) was bitten by a snake while she was watching television at her house at 21st layout in the town in the morning. When she was taken to the hospital, Dr Eranna, who was on duty, admitted Kasturi to the hospital.
Since the treatment failed, she was referred to VIMS hospital in Bellary. But the girl died on the way, while being taken in an ambulance.
Hundreds of people assembled at the hospital by afternoon as news of the girl’s death spread in the town. The mob attacked Chief Medical Officer Dr Sampath Raj, Dr Jagannath, Dr Eranna and Dr Ravindranath, besides other staff who came to their rescue. Dr Eranna said the mob abused him, taking his caste name. Police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
Attack flayed
The Karnataka Government Specialist Doctors' Association has condemned the attack on doctors at the Siruguppa general hospital. The Association said that the public should not take law into their own hands.
