Tihar Jail bakery products at Kendriya Bhandar stores

'TJ Brand' as it is known, potato chips, peanuts, biscuits, namkeen, muffins and cakes made by inmates of the Tihar jail will be available at all 22 stores owned by the Central Govt. Employees Consumer Cooperative Society Ltd.

"We have tied up with the Kendriya Bhandar and now TJ brand products will be available in all stores. This has been done to meet the increasing demand for our products," Sunil Gupta, law officer and spokesperson of Tihar Prisons said.

Already seven outlets in the city are selling TJ brand products. With this, the number of stores selling the brand products will go up to 29. Five varieties of namkeen, biscuits, rusk, cakes and waffers will also be available.

"The more the products sell, the more it increases the job opportunities for the inmates inside the prison premises and he or she also gets to earn well. It will also help towards the rehabilitation programme for the prisoners." The jail earned Rs 2.37 crore last year by selling these products.

"We intend to reach a large section of people. That is why we are making our products available at Kendriya Bhandar outlets. We are aiming to generate Rs three crore this year," he said.

"We are also aiming at attaining the goal of Rs 15 crore annual turnover this year. To meet this goal we are advertising the products through FM radio."
