Fletcher impressed by team's character

“There was a game earlier that we struggled a little bit. But if you look at the end result it looked like an easy win, as we won by four or five wickets. But I don’t think it was. Today was another game where we struggled but we won. It shows two things: character of the team, which is very, very important, and what’s crucial is that we can win from those situations. That’s not easy. Most sides would crumble under that sort of pressure, so it’s good to win so that you know that how to win from those situations,” Fletcher said.

The former England coach said Indian cricket would be well served by the young bunch in future. “We have the right ingredients. Rohit can play for most Test sides in the world right now, but there is such quality in the Indian Test side at the moment.

“But they have to continue with the form and the hard work. By winning the series 3-0, they have shown great capability with bat and bowl. What has impressed me is the way they have thrown themselves on the field in this heat. They have got the potential and the ingredients to be a great side.”

Fletcher was happy to see the consistent effort of Rohit Sharma in the series. “I just think it was a tremendous innings, how he took control of the whole innings. He must have a bright future in Indian cricket.

“It speaks about the depth in India. You have a man like that who is not part of the Test team. It’s difficult to finish a game like that, and Rohit showed he is one of those rare guys who can do that. I really look forward to working with a player like that,” Fletcher said.
