The cops not only allegedly strangled the teen to death before thrashing her in front of her five-year-old brother but also tried to bribe the mother of the deceased to buy her silence and hush up the matter after it was exposed by the media.

Sonam’s dupatta (a long piece of cloth used by the girls around their neck) which was used to hang her body from the tree inside Nighasan police station, swayed in the air on the tree well after her body was brought down bore a mute testimony to the police brutality.

The cops, after killing Sonam, also disturbed the crime scene and then connived with the doctors, who performed autopsy on the body to make sure that the truth was not revealed.

Initial ptobe has revealed that the Sonam was murdered by the cop to take revenge upon her father, a gate-keeper at the under construction complex, after the latter threatened to lodge a report for stealing a large quantity of construction material from the site.

The cop identified as Ramchandra allegedly connived with two other colleagues to  execute the plan.

Not long back, the same UP police had tried to shield a BSP legislator Purshottam Dwivedi after the latter was charged with raping a Dalit teen.

On several other occasions also in the past, the role of the state police has been questioned. On many an occasions, the senior officials had to intervene to rein in the erring cops after public outcry.
