Two held for faking robbery

Last Updated 14 June 2011, 18:22 IST

Bhavesh, who was being driven by Rajanikant in an Innova on June 10 from Bellary to Bangalore, had complained to the Aimangala police that he had been waylaid near Gollahalli on NH 19 and robbed by two men who rode a motorbike.

Bhavesh had told police that the two men had intercepted his car, intimidated them with a knife and robbed him of two gold rings and a bag containing Rs 13 lakh, and the driver of Rs 1,700.

Investigation team set up

District Superintendent of Police M N Nagaraj had set up an investigation team to inquire into the robbery, headed by DySP Rudramuni and Circle Inspector of Police Ravi.
The team’s inquiries found that there were inconsistencies in the version of the events narrated by Bhavesh and the driver.

When questioned closely, Bhavesh admitted that he had faked the robbery. According to him, he owed Rs 13 lakh to a person named Inderji in Bangalore.  He had told Inderji that he was coming to Bangalore with the money. He started for Bangalore, but without the money.

Planned robbery

He planned to stage a robbery and lodge a false complaint with the police. Nagaraj told the media that the investigations had confirmed that Bhavesh had faked the robbery in collusion with Rajanikant, his friend.

Bhavesh was heavily in debt, borrowing up to Rs 95 lakh and paying ‘meter’ interest of up to Rs 75,000 a day.

Bhavesh and Rajanikant have been remanded in judicial custody for 14 days.
