14 face charge of explosives theft

Northern Range Inspector General of Police P S Sandhu told reporters at Ilkal on Tuesday, that 125 kg of gun powder, 195 kg of gelatin sticks and detonators were seized from the accused, belonging to Balakundi thanda.

They were produced in court and were remanded to police custody for questioning.
The accused had stolen the explosives from the storehouse of the firm on the night of June 5.

They had gained entry by breaking open the locks. Four special probe teams of nine sub inspectors and 20 police personnel were formed to nab the culprits.

When members of the probe teams searched every house in the thanda and zeroed in on the accused, they said that they had hidden the explosives in the nearby forest.  The police recovered the explosives from the forest. The IGP said that the members of the probe teams had been recommended for awards.
