Following a report in the June 14 edition of Deccan Herald, BBMP Commissioner Siddaiah has sought details from the Palike’s lake division.

“I have gone through the report and have asked officials of the department concerned to furnish details of the lake on Wednesday,” said the Commissioner.

Lake inspection

He said he would inspect the lake on Thursday. Meanwhile, corporator of Uttarahalli Ramesh Raju on Tuesday said the Palike would hand over the lake to private builders, who are polluting the lake, to develop it. “I have spoken to the commissioner about the restoration of the lake. Why not allow those polluting the lake to restore the water body to its glory?” said Raju. He said once the encroachments on the lake bed are cleared, the builders would green its surroundings and build a walkway around it.

Fencing of water bodies

Following the High Court directive to restore all lakes, BBMP had started the fencing of lakes, including Subramanyapura Lake.

The pillars used for fencing are of substandard quality and cement was not used to fix the pillars of the fence.  As a result, most of them collapsed the same day they were fixed around the Subramanyapura Lake bund, through which an approach road to Turahalli village and a BDA layout passes.
