Arun Pondey netted a penalty in the fifth minute and Venkatesh found the back of the net in the 76th to put Postal on top of the standings with nine points. It was RWF’s second loss in as many matches.

The last two day’s Super Division matches saw early goals and spot kicks, and Wednesday was no different as Postal went ahead in the fifth minute through Arun, who converted a penalty after Prakash was brought down in the area by RWF’s Sugandhar.

RWF, who played with three strikers, never seemed a threatening force as their midfielders failed to provide enough support to the forwards. The closest they could get to the rival goal in the first half was when an onrushing Nanda Kumar’s header went wide in the 19th minute off a cross from the right by Mahendra Mani.

In the second half, Postal received enough chances to put the tie beyond the reach of RWF while the latter had equal opportunities to snatch victory. The main culprits for Postal were Amoes and Einstein AM. Amoes could have done better when unmarked inside the box but the midfielder’s weak volley was saved by RWF goalkeeper Saravana in the 62nd and a little later, Einstein headed wide.

Six minutes later, RWF’s Vinodh could well have become his team’s hero but the forward shot straight at Postal custodian Ravindran from close range. Postal made RWF pay for their misses when Venkatesh found the net with a powerful volley after a cross from the left by Amoes.

Other result: ‘A’ Division: Bangalore Mars: 3 (S Kumar 4th, Dinesh 40th, 63rd) bt Southern Blues: 2 (Sridhar 73rd, Santhosh 77th).
