The peak is often seen touching clouds and hence it is called ‘Mugilagiri’ in Kannada and ‘Mugaal giri’ in Tulu. A perfect place for trekkers, Mugilagiri is not an easy place to reach.
This trekkers’ paradise is seen standing still, majestically on National Highway-75 (previously NH-48), via Shirady. One will have to take a left diversion, towards Sakleshpur, just a few kilometres from Gundya check post to reach to the hill.

It is certainly not going to be a cake walk. What welcomes you right at the beginning of the trek is a sharp uphill climb. The degree of climb might certainly discourage many but only hardcore adventure freaks continue the climb to relish the heavenly experience that awaits at the top of the hill.

For the first two to four kms of the trek is a relaxed walk under canopy of trees, followed by another few strech of Shola grassland.

What comes along the walk is package of breathtaking sights of Venkatagiri, Arebetta, Aramanegudda, Gadaikal etc. One can also get glances of Hassan-Mangalore railway line.
The peak is approximately 1,250 meter high. After three to four hours of trek, the trail becomes tougher, and there is a further steeper climb. This area is a kind of wall and trekkers have to take slow and steady steps.

This stretch takes 30-45 minutes to regular trekkers and far beyond hours for inexperienced ones. Hence, it is suggested to go in groups with experienced trekkers.
After this, the trail is comparitively easier. Actually, there are two peaks of Mugilagiri. First you will reach the highest point and then if you want to enjoy scenic beauty of the whole area and the valley and meadows, you have to cross a ridge to another peak, which is a few meters down the highest point. This is the best place to have food and take rest.
Local guides are available near Gundia and Shirady.

The best season to visit the region is November onwards. During November-January the peak is green and a feast for eyes.

During summer, it is difficult to trek because the hill will be dry and hot.

 How to reach?

Gundia checkpost is the centre point for reaching the hill, no matter where you come from. Local gudies are available here easily who can take you to the hill.
