Gowda misleading farmers, says BJP

Last Updated 17 June 2011, 16:19 IST

Speaking to reporters, BJP State President K S Eshwarappa said Deve Gowda’s allegations were “far from truth” and allayed the fears of forcible acquisition or eviction of farmers.

He dismissed as a “dud bomb” the JD(S) State President H D Kumaraswamy’s claim that Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa was attempting to "buy his silence" over graft charges against him.

He also ridiculed the statements of Congress leader Siddaramaiah stating that if Congress comes to power, Yeddyurappa will be sent to jail. “Earlier, he had said the same about S M Krishna when he was in JD (S). When he joined Congress, he said Gowda and his family members will be sent to jail,” he said.

Eshwarappa said the party will be conducting a three-day ‘Abhyasa varga’ (training session) for its 121 MLAs in in the City in July.

He said party MLAs will be imparted training on discipline, party policy and its ideology. Members of Legislative Council, MPs and ZP members would also attend the camp.
At a separate press conference, BJP General Secretary C T Ravi said the party would hold public conventions at 200 places across the State between June 22 and 27 in support of its demand for inclusion of the Prime Minister and Supreme Court judges under the ambit of the Lokpal bill.

Nirani’s jibe

At another function here, Industries minister Murugesh Nirani said that former Prime Minister Deve Gowda is politicising the land bank issue, and is trying to mislead the State farmers.

The State government is doing its best to appease the farmers by asking them to sell non agricultural land for a reasonable compensation, he said, adding that Gowda was driving away investors by his anti-development stand.
