“The monsoon has progressed normally and is expected to gain momentum as it advances further. It has entered Bihar and Uttar Pradesh and is expected to reach Delhi by June 29,” the official told Deccan Herald.

Usually, the southwest monsoon rain moves towards mainland after hitting Kerala either at the end of May or in the first week of June and cover the rest of the country by July. This year, so far, the monsoon has covered more than 50 per cent of the country.

According to IMD, conditions are favourable for further advancement of monsoon in the remaining parts of the country. Right distribution of rainfall is being forecast in crop-rich regions by mid-July.

Notably, on Friday night, monsoon entered Bihar with Patna and neighbouring districts of Gaya, Jehanabad and Nalanda areas receiving heavy rain. Rain and thundershowers lashed parts of Uttar Pradesh and it is expected to cover most part of the state in next few days, except districts adjoining Delhi.
