Orissa godman held for running illegal clinic

A police party accompanied by senior district officials raided the house of godman Srides Baba on Sunday and rescued as many as 15 psychiatric patients following a tip off.

The patients who were from different areas within Kalahandi district and outside had been confined to a room and in chains. The patients have been shifted to the government run district headquarters hospital.

The godman had been running the clinic at his rented accommodation for the last four years. The police have seized several documents from his house. “We are investigating in detail how he managed to establish this illegal mental clinic here. Besides,  we are also investigating into the so called godman’s background,” a district official said.
