Mohammad Alim of Hyderabad called up Om Prakash of Dabwali town, 300 km from here, Sep 18 last year and said his mobile number had won a lottery of Rs.10 lakh, a police spokesman said here.

In his complaint to police, Om Prakash said Alim asked him to deposit Rs.100,000 in a bank account to claim the prize. Om Prakash deposited Rs.74,000 in the account and called up the mobile number from which he got the lottery call.

The person at the other end, however, denied he (Om Prakash) had won a lottery. When Om Prakash sought a refund of his money, he was threatened with dire consequences.

Following a complaint, the Haryana Police investigated the matter and arrested Alim from Hyderabad. An amount of Rs.25,000 was recovered from him, a police spokesman said. Investigating officer Roshan Lal said four more people, working as part of the network, had been identified and their whereabouts were being traced.
