"This eclipsing is called occultation, similar to what happens in solar eclipse (when moon covers the sun)," said an official from the Science Popularization Association of Communicators and Educators (SPACE).

"There have been many night-time lunar occultation of Venus but this time its special as it is happening in broad daylight in India," he said.

In India, the occultation would take place from 1.18 p.m. to 2.41 p.m.

Across the globe, this phenomena will be visible in Africa, the Middle East and Asia.

"In western Africa, it can be seen before sunrise while other countries will witness it during day time. The first location where the Moon eclipses Venus will be Tripoli," added the official.

"It will be a great opportunity for amateurs to witness and capture occultation in daylight," he added.
