Maran meets Manmohan

Last Updated 30 June 2011, 19:30 IST

While it was not clear what transpired during the brief meeting, Maran told a TV channel that it had nothing to do with politics and that only official issues were discussed.

Dismissing the meeting as a routine one, Maran quipped: “It is nothing... I am a minister.”
The DMK leader is under fire over his alleged role in the 2G spectrum issue. He was the telecom minister in UPA-1 when the 2G licences were allocated. Pressure on Maran has mounted over reports that CBI is investigating the alleged scam.

The alleged case against Maran relates to spectrum allocated during 2001-07. The CBI has recorded the statement of former Aircel chief C Sivasankaran in which he charged Maran with arm-twisting him to sell his stake to Maxis Communications and in return the Malaysian company reportedly invested close to Rs 600 crore in the Maran family-owned Sun Network.

But Maran has maintained that he is innocent.
