In a statement issued here on Thursday, the company has said night shifts are normal in any large factory and that it has  another 600 employees working in night shifts.

“The company has a well-structured grievance redress system, and Murthy had not raised any concern to make use of this system,” the statement said.

The statement also said that Murthy’s requests to adjust and alter night shifts with day shifts were supported, accepted and allowed on several occasions. The company has normal three-shift system and “Murthy had been routinely working in night shifts on a rotational basis for the past 15 years.”

Murthy, an employee at Mico’s Naganathapura plant, poisoned his 35-year-old wife Lakshmi and their two sons Yashas and Rohit before ending his life by hanging himself at his house at Aishwarya Layout in Electronics City.

The death note he left behind stated that he was upset with his employers’ decision to increase his workload and put him on night shift.
