Last Updated 01 August 2009, 18:16 IST

Inaugurating a seminar on ‘Challenges in Education’ organised by Rotary Club and Udbhava Prakashana Trust on Thursday in Chikmagalur, Kumar said that textbooks are only a small means of gaining knowledge.

“The decision of medium of education must be taken up by the parents. The debate on this issue will be never ending. The mentality of our people cannot be analysed easily.
The people who agree for the concept of universal education like to disagree on uniform education,” he said and added that feelings of discrimination in our minds is the reason for such confusions.

He said that the elite schools in the cities grab attention due to its glamour and in such a scenario, rural schools fail to compete with richer schools. Government schools have become laboratories in true sense.

He opined that making 10th standard examination optional is appropriate and propagated that there is no relation between knowledge and examination.

PU Education Deputy Director Saroja, Udbhava Prakashana Managing Trustee D H Nataraj and others were present.
