6 killed in accidents

Five persons were killed on the spot when a van carrying them hit a lorry near Nelahaal Bridge in Kora hobli in the wee hours. Mounesh (30), Mounesh (20) and Hanumantu (20), Mounappa (35) and Eeresh (28) are the dead. 
Of the 14 injured, the condition of the two is critical. The five injured, including two women, have been admitted to Nimhans in Bangalore.
Gangaiah, Parushappa, Narasamma, Amarappa, Lingamma, Nagamma, Yallamma, Renuka, Mounesh, Yallamma, Gowramma, Mallamma and Raghavendra are the injured. According to Parushappa of Hirehasurooru village, survivor in the accident, poor bus service in the village forced them to hire a van to Bangalore.
According to him, the accident took place when the van driver tried to overtake the lorry. Though four-year-old Ambika had a miraculous escape in the accident, she lost her father.
In another accident, Basava (31) of Lingasaguru taluk was killed on the spot when the van he was driving turned turtle after hitting the road median near Chikkanahalli in the early hours of Sunday.
Basavaiah, Chandpasaha, Gowramma, Timmaiah, Paramanna and Renukappa have been injured.
Ex gratia
Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa has announced an ex gratia of Rs one lakh to the kin of  the dead. Lingasugur legislator Manappa Vajjal met the injured at the hospital and gave away Rs 2,000 each.
