'Bopaiah is targeted intentionally'

Last Updated 14 July 2011, 16:52 IST

Speaking to the media persons on Thursday, Muthappa said that a few people who are against drawing of high tension wires which are expected to pass through the district are making false propaganda against K G Bopaiah by dragging his name in the issue unnecessarily. “The people who have not been able to tolerate the popularity of Bopaiah are doing this kind of work intentionally,” he alleged.

“In 2006 Bopaiah had suggested to pass the Kallikote to Mysore high tension wire in the forest area of Kodagu district. According to his plan the wire which would pass from Hunasoor, H D Kote and Nagarahole (70 km distance) would have been completed using Rs three crore. But the plan was cancelled due to the opposition from the environmentalists. As per the changed plan the project would now cost Rs seven crore as the wires will have to pass covering 146 km. Moreover, the wire would pass through the residential area and the coffee plantations, posing threat to the public,” he said.

Muthappa urged to cancel the new plan and execute the work as per the old plan laid by Bopaiah. Bopaiah is made responsible for all the projects that are coming up in the district. “Why is Bopaiah being targeting every time for everything when the district has MP Vishawanath and Council member T John, who too are people representatives,” he questioned. He added that the BJP opposes the implementation of anti-people projects.
