Forwarding the memorandum to Governor H R Bharadwaj through DC Dr Reju, Komu Sauharda Vedike Udupi District President Rajashekhar said, “we are in a democratic country where secular ideologies are given major thrust.”

Education being part of social set up, we should not include religious aspects in the school curriculum. Preaching “Bhagvadgeetha” in schools is absurd to the extent that no government school is embodied to any religious beliefs. It is against the laws put forth in the Constitution, he added.

Accusing that “Bhagvadgeetha Abhiyaan” is a private affair of particular mutt and government is attempting to give it an official status, Rajashekhar said the programme is going on since 4 years unofficially in most of the taluks in the State. If Bhagvadgeetha is taught in schools, then there should preaching on Quran and Bible, the sacred texts of Muslims and Christians, he said.
