Change in temples' administration opposed

Last Updated 03 August 2009, 17:29 IST

An order was issued entrusting the maintainance of these temples to the Doddabllapur Ghati Subramanyaswamy temple in Doddaballapur taluk. Opposing the move, District Working Journalists’ Association President K N Gopalachar has urged the authorities to withdraw the order on handing over the temples’ administration to Doddaballapur taluk.

He has said that the administration of these two temples were under the jurisdiction of the assistant commissioner of Chikkaballapur. Now, the administration has been handed over to the Doddabllapur Ghati Subramanyaswamy temple administrator. The move has paved way for suspicion among the public, Gopalachar told reporters here on Monday.
He has also sought explanation for taking such a decision which hurts the residents’ sentiments in Chikkaballapur.

He has demanded that the order in this connection should immediately be withdrawn as it alters the history of the taluk. He has threatened intense agitation, under the aegis of various organisation, if the demand was not fulfilled.

He further argued that the move has annoyed the residents of Chikkaballapur who have already been upset over the issue of Jakkalamadagu reservoir project.

The regional conflict between Chikkaballapur and Doddaballapur taluks has become intense since the project aiming to supply water from Jakkalamadagu reservoir to Doddaballapur was planned. Even as the memories of the protests against this project were still fresh in the memory of the residents in the regions, the new order on the
temples’ administration has added insult to injuries, the president claimed.

Now, the Chikkaballapur residents may have to begin agitation not only for water but also for temples, he added.
