Fire department driver hangs self

Christopher Jairaj (42) was a driver with the Fire department and a resident of Hennur. He was married and had three daughters. After work hours, he used to ferry customers in his autorickshaw.

The police said he had not gone home since Friday and his cellphone was switched off. On Tuesday morning, Jairaj’s colleagues saw his autorickshaw parked in the grounds and his body hanging from a rope tied to the vehicle roof.

Woman ends life

In another incident, a 26-year-old woman’s body was found hanging from the ceiling at her residence at Munekollalu of HAL locality. The deceased, Manikyamma, was a daily wage worker and was married to Venkatesh. The reason for the extreme step is not known.

Seena associates held

The CCB police raided the house of Seena alias Bettanagere Seena near Ganesh temple on Sondekoppa Road in Nelamangala police limits on Monday.

They claimed to have seized two pistols, 21 bullets of .32 calibre, a double-barrel gun, 10 cartridges and three cellphones, all valued at Rs three lakh. Seena managed to escape.

The police arrested three of his associates - Shiyokumar Tiwari (41) from New Delhi, Abdul Ameed Khan (36) from Uttar Pradesh and Bijendra Kumar Rai (32) from Uttar Pradesh. The trio supplied the pistols and bullets to Seena who had hatched a conspiracy to attack his rival gang members and police.

Detained

Siddapura police on Tuesday detained Nawaz alias Nayaz alias Nawab under the provisions of the Karnataka Prevention of Dangerous Activities of Bootleggers, Drug Offenders, Gamblers, Goondas, Immoral Traffic Offenders and Slum Grabbers Act, 1985, on an order from Police Commissioner B G Jyothiprakash Mirji.

Mirji issued the order on a report from DCP (South Division) that action under law had so far failed to deter Nawaz from indulging in serious bodily crimes against innocent people. The DCP recommended detention of Nawaz under the Goonda Act.

Nawaz, according to police, is on their rowdy sheet in Siddapura police station. He is said to be a close associate of Mahim alias Mohammed Asgar, who was detained by the Police under the Goonda Act. 

Nawaz started criminal activities in 2004 by forming a gang with local youth. He is allegedly involved in 10 cases including two murders, an attempt to murder, kidnapping, assault and  extortion.

12 arrested

The City police on Monday arrested 12 persons on charges of murder, sale of fake garments, chain snatching and supplying arms.

They seized fake garments, a car, two gold chains, two pistols, bullets and cellphones, all valued at more than Rs 40 lakh.
