The results of the poll held on Sunday (July 17) for the five taluks - Kolar, Srinivaspur, Malur, Mulbagal and Bangarpet taluks - were announced on Tuesday.

While JD (S) emerged victorious in Kolar, Srinivaspur and Mulbagal, in Malur and Bangarpet BJP held sway.

Although the contest was among the BJP, Congress and JD(S), it is said that BJP MLA Varthur Prakash has 12 of his own men contesting against the official BJP candidates in Kolar APMC. He could get only two of the 12 seats.

Varthur, who was successful in manipulating the Zilla panchayat and Taluk Panchayat electi ns held in De cember last, is said to be losing his popularity due to his hob-nobbing with all the three parties.

Each taluk APMC has 14 seats including 11 farmers’ constituency, 1 merchant and 2 co-operative sector.

In Kolar and Srinivaspur JD(s) was able to clinch 9 seats, in Malur 5 and Mulbagal 6 but it could not open its ‘account’ in Bangarpet taluk.

In Bangarpet, where the Congress has faced defeat in the assembly byelection, Congress was able to  get only two seats in the APMC elections.

The BJP which is attempting to consolidate its voter base in Kolar had a little sweet, but more of a bitter experience in the APMC elections. In Bangarpet it has 10 seats and 6 seats in Malur, where it hopes to form the committee.

Congress wh ich is a consistent loser in  the various elections held in the district could get only 2 seats in Malur, 4 in Mulbagal, 3 in Srinivaspur, 2 in Bangarpet and 3 in Kolar. It has no hope of forming a committee in any of the taluk APMCs

Bangarpet

With BJP-supported candid ates winning the Agriculture Produce Marketing Committee (APMC) elections, it almost certain that BJP will be at the helm in Bangarpet. Of the total 12 committee members’ posts, BJP has won ten and the remaining two has been bagged by the Congress.

B  V Mahesh who contested from Doddur Karapanahalli reserved constituency has garnered a record 2,193 votes. M Ramappa from Hulibele constituency has been elected unopposed.  Former Town Municipal Council president and Block Congress president S A Parthasarathi and Karnataka Rakshana Vedike district unit president Rajagopala Gowda have been defeated
