Telangana leader assaults official

Last Updated 21 July 2011, 17:31 IST

A large number of political leaders from Telangana region had planned to bring the body of Andireddy (23), who ended his life here on Wednesday as he was reportedly upset over delay in carving out a separate state, to AP Bhavan to pay homage and stage a protest.

However, the body was not brought as an official of the AP government had earlier written to the Delhi Police against the move fearing law and order problems. The leaders, who came to the Bhavan got enraged and started protesting against the government’s decision.
Meanwhile, TRS leader K T Harish Rao, nephew of party chief K Chandrashekar Rao, assaulted the official and damaged his office furniture in front of mediapersons. While the official and his family members registered three complaints against Rao, employees of Andhra government here staged a dharna on the premises of the Bhavan protesting against Telangana leaders’ attitude. The state government employees in AP  called for a statewide protest on Friday.
