Tamil Nadu complete huge win

Cricket: KSCA invitation meet: Solanki scalps six as Hyderabad crash out
Last Updated 04 August 2009, 17:27 IST

The result of the league contest in the KSCA all-India invitation tournament was never in any doubt a

fter TNCA had racked up an incredible 550 for seven on the first day on Monday. The sole point of interest at the Chinnaswamy stadium on Tuesday was how Railways would respond to being run around the park the previous day.

While the Railway top-order acquitted itself with some credit — they had reached 267 for three at tea — the fight went out of them once occasional leg-spinner Abhinav Mukund got rid of skipper Sanjay Bangar, caught at long-off, shortly after resumption.

Mukund and part-time medium-pacer R Prasanna, at one stage operating with seven men in the slip cordon as Dinesh Kaarthick embraced the cheeky, joined hands to complete the formalities from then on, Railways’ resistance ending at 348 with nearly 12 of their 100 overs left unutilised.

Railways were shored up by a 129-run stand for the second wicket between local lad V Cheluvaraj, unlucky to miss out on his century by four runs (96, 150b, 14x4, 1x6) and Harshad Rawale, who made a quickfire 103 (133b, 14x4). Young left-arm spinner R Aushik Srinivas did the early damage for the holders, before the part-timers enjoyed a field day.
In other matches, there were victories for Air India by a mammoth 397 runs over Gujarat Cricket Association, and for Kerala Cricket Association over ONGC on a better run rate in a match that was called off due to a dangerous pitch.

Vishwajit shines

Left-arm spinner Vishwajit Solanki took six for 16 to scuttle Hyderabad Cricket Association’s hopes of staying alive in the competition as Dr DY Patil Sports Academy made a winning start to their campaign.

Overnight 30 for two chasing the Mumbai side’s 253, Hyderabad were thrown a lifeline through Ambati Rayudu’s 109 (227b, 19x4, 1x6), but there was little else of substance as they keeled over for 202 to take an early flight home.

The tournament will resume on Thursday after a day of rest.
