Day-long seminar on doping menace

The seminar assumes significance as Indian athletes were recently found to be consuming banned drugs.The seminar is being jointly organised by physical education department of the university, Post Graduate Sports Council, department of youth services and sports (DYSS), education department and Mysore Medical College Alumni Association (MAA).

Speaking at a media conference here on Saturday, physical education department director C Krishna said programme is being organised to improve awareness among students about the doping menace. He said physical education instructors and students can benefit from the programme.

While Prof B S Vishwanath, biochemistry department, would elaborate on the history of doping, Dr B G Sagar, Mysore Medical College and Research Institute, would give an overview of doping in India.

National Anti-Doping Agency expert Dr Kiran G Kulkarni would explain about the significance of NADA and World Anti-Doping Agency.

KSOU vice-chancellor Prof K S Rangappa would be chief guest.Krishna said around 800 to 1,000 sportspersons are expected to participate in the programme. He said a circular has been sent to all colleges to participate in the programme. For details, interested sportspersons can contact 94485 57004.
