<p> The party activists led by Legislator K P Bachegowda staged a protest here on Wednesday and took out a rally on the main streets of the town. They held dharana in front of the assistant commissioner’s office and shouted slogans against the BJP government. <br /><br />They demanded that power should be supplied for 12 hours in phase III and for eight hours in single phase. <br /><br />They also said that there should not be interruption in power supply in the evening to make it convenient for the students to study regularly. <br /><br />Demands<br /><br />They also put forth many other demands including: replacing malfunctioning transformer within 24 hours; filling up vacancies in the Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (Bescom) office; and, withdrawing the ordinance that electricity will be supplied only if the the solar water heater is installed in the house. <br /><br />They submitted a memorandum to the executive engineer in the Bescom. They later took out a procession from the office to the assistant commissioner’s office where they demanded that the district should be declared drought-hit. <br /><br />Some of the demands made by the protesters here are - providing fodder and water for the livestock as the district has received no rains; to initiate drought relief measures immediately; to distribute ration for the temporary BPL card holders; and to announce compensation for those farmers who suffered crop loss due to hailstorm. <br /><br />JD(S) leaders K V Nagaraj, K R Reddy, G R Narayana swamy, K T Narayanaswamy, P Srinivas and Jayamma were present on the occasion.</p>
