'Healthcare next big industry after IT'

Despite this, WHO predicts that India is expected to spend $ 270 billion in the next decade to manage non communicable diseases in India, said Dr Pratap Reddy of Apollo.

Dr Reddy spoke while inaugurating the second edition of Healthex 2011 at Bangalore International Exhibition Centre on Friday.

“The challenges present before the society in India today are mind boggling. While there has been tremendous development in health sector in the country in the last 20 years it has not kept pace with the technological advances. Even alternative systems of medicine have not been integrated,” said Dr Reddy.

Mobile tele medicine

Speaking on the sidelines, Dr Reddy said that Apollo Hospitals was soon going to launch mobile tele medicine for people and advice could be sought over the mobile phone.
